When installing the OSX updates, will I need to use Xpostfacto to do the install? I may get the 10.2.8 update from Apple, or I may just go for 10.3 instead.

When installing OSX updates you just open the update from the OSX desktop. Then just follow the info as to which boxes to check etc. So no you don't use XPFacto. 10.3 Panther is a nice upgrade but more a refinement of Jaguar then a whole new OS. 10.3 is buggy and needs upgrading to the latest. One of the main bugs is SCSI hard drives often can't be used on new or old machines. (updates have fixed this issue) 10.3.7 combo update is 90+ MB download. So same issue as with upgrading Jaguar.
Here is a link for software which will let many external DVD work with OSX. Also enables the use of iTunes , iDVD and the finders Disk burner app etc.
