One thing that freezes my system -- including my mouse -- is a poorly coded JavaScript. I know from experience several Web sites have that problem. I disable JavaScript before visiting them. Another thing causing the problem for me is unecessary images from third-party domains, especially animated. I restrict images to only those from the domain of the Web page I select.
