Nonononononono... MS-DOS was written by T[oi]m Patterson at Seattle Computer
Products as QDOS (Quick and Dirty Operating System), being a clone of CP/M. MS
bought the rights to QDOS when IBM approached them after talks with DRI
regarding CP/M became a bit frustrating. MS then modified QDOS slightly for
MS-DOS v1, then wrote a lot more for the other versions (v2 introduced
subdirectories for instance).

CP/M was based sort of on Unix IIRC by Digital Research.
