Hi, this isn't a full answer but first go to
http://www.imaxx.net/~thrytis/glibc/
and see what glibc is all about.
Then get the Howto on installing glibc on a libc
system. I think it's called the Glibc2-Howto
It can be done. But you have to keep careful track
of your lib directories and specify which libdir
to use when compiling. And the instructions are not
very clear unless you are familiar with all the terminology
used in setting up compilers. It seems you always cause
a problem somewhere, when you try to do a dual lib system.
I looked at it awhile back and tried it, but messed it up
and I had to reinstall my entire c package.
So I just resorted to using the Redhat 5.2 system
that I installed on a spare partition, to compile anything
that wants glibc.
