I have migrated from the German version 5.3 to 6.0. After having rearranged all
libc5-based programs to glibc-based ones, there were two problems left:
1. What to do with the libc5-based programs which were not enclosed in the SuSE
or another distribution, which are commercial or for which there is not source
code available (e. g. Wabi 2.2D, Executor for Linux 2.0x)?
2. Will programming with "gcc" and the glibc-based libraries (such as gtk++
etc.) work?
Well, I have written two little and simple wrappers for Wabi and Executor, the
first one for the libc5-version of Wabi, the other one for the glibc-version of
Executor (the glibc-compiled version of it did definitively work under SuSE,
but only under RedHat). Both now run satisfactorily without any problems being
logged so far.
Compiling self-developped (i. e. SuSE-based compilation) programs is not
problematic. But using RedHat-based compilations with e. g. gtk++ libraries
makes everything difficult. gtk++ 1.0.6 with SuSE and RedHat do not seem to be
identically applicable.
More of that after more programming and tests.
Sincerely,
Markus Mohr
