You basically cannot do the advanced matching that you can do with the .fdi files in HAL in a simple implementation like s2ram. HAL could even match different workarounds depending on what version of the X driver is installed, for example. It would also be easy to upgrade the whitelist without recompiling anything, just by upgrading the "hal-info" package.
