Hmmm, only flash 7? I've been using your "beautiful hack" with mtasc and flash 8 without any problems. Anything I should be watching out for? BTW- I also have had to include the classes used in this way on the compile line in mtasc for this to work. Has been a head scratcher at times when I add a new class and forget all the places where it needed to be referenced ;-), but not really any problem...
