Comment #15 on issue 2482 by ondrej.c...@gmail.com: Stop bundling mpmath http://code.google.com/p/sympy/issues/detail?id=2482
There are several packages of mpmath in Debian, and some of the older ones do break sympy. When I, as a user, download sympy, I expect it to just work. If I want to hack on sympy and provide some patches, let's say to the quantum stuff, I don't want to be bothered by dependencies each time. Last thing I want to solver is users disappointed by sympy, that they downloaded it, and it didn't just work.
Btw, I don't use pip. The same on the app engine and other platforms, where pip will not "just work".
Once we drop python 2.4 support, I'll look into it. If mpmath in sympy can't coexist with some other mpmath on the system, it's a bug and it should be fixed.
However, once we setup our testing farm, and if we can afford the hardware, I am ok for also testing against various mpmath versions and providing a list of mpmath versions, that work with each sympy release. If somebody wants to go ahead and implement this, I am +1.
