When I install firefox, I don't install xulrunner. I download the binary and it just works. I am pretty sure, that most people that use firefox either use it from Ubuntu, or download the binary. They most definitely *not* install xulrunner by hand, most people don't even know what that is.
For Python, the binary are actually the source codes themselves. Given how most people use sympy, they just download the git, or install tarballs or use it from Sage or Debian/Ubuntu.
