If we don't bundle mpmath, pip install sympy will still work, sudo apt-get install python-sympy will still work (and http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=541746 will be fixed), ./setup.py install will still work, ... The only thing that won't work out of the box is git clone, but people who can do a git clone can certainly do a pip install or setup their Python environment themselves.
