First of all, why would mpmath become incompatible? It's a library like any other, it should first deprecate functions for a few releases and only then remove them (like we do in SymPy after all). If an incompatibility happens, it's a problem with mpmath and a new version of it should be release instead (it's not like we don't have contact). Finally, Fredrik himself said that mpmath will remain stable, and he should know best.

Now imagine the opposite scenario: we release SymPy, and then discover a bug in mpmath. So, now we need to release a new version of SymPy with an updated mpmath, even though nothing in our code changed.
