I have seen this before with bad/conflicting drivers under XP. The usb-serial adaptor is not 'ejecting' correctly or is being held active by another device. Clean your USB system as follows:
- Download USBDeview (http://nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html) - Show all device types under options - Select all devices in list - Uninstall all selected devices - Reboot Make sure you have the very latest driver for your device. Most are based on Prolific hardware. This driver works for me: http://www.prolific.com.tw/support/files//IO%20Cable/PL-2303HX/Drivers/Generic/PL2303_XP2KME98Driver_Setup.zip Good luck. --- On Mon, 28/7/08, Steve IK4WMH <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > From: Steve IK4WMH <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: Re: [Synalist] Problem with USB-RS232 adapter > To: "Ararat Synapse" <[email protected]> > Date: Monday, 28 July, 2008, 3:36 PM > Hello Jon, > > Monday, July 28, 2008, 1:20:25 PM, you wrote: > > J> Also try PortMon from Sysinternals > J> > (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896644.aspx) > to debug. > > I am trying right now and there is one thing that is very > confusing to > me. > > The first time I run portmon after a reboot under > Capture/Ports I find > the following items: > > COM1: Serial0 > COM5: Serial2 > LPT1: Parallel0 > > Now I deactivate the COM1 and LPT1 so I capture only the > packets from > COM5. > > Everything runs ok. > > Now I close portmon and the test unit, disconnect the > adapter, > reconnect and run portmon again. > > Much to my surprise under Capture/Ports now I find 2 COM5, > one > identified as Serial2 and the other as Serial4. > > With portmon still hooked to the COM5/Serial2 I don't > see anything > captured, but if I select the new pair COM5/Serial4 I get > some > captures although it appears to be slightly different from > the > previous case, this is the case where the test unit does > not receive > anything from the serial port. > > Now with portmon and the test unit closed I disc/reconn > again and now > I have a third pair, COM5/Serial6. > > If I try again the disc/reconn phase now the pair > COM5/Serial6 has > disappeared while I have now a new COM5/Serial7 item. > > > > ---------------------------- > Famous Sport Quotes: > > "This evening is a very different evening from the > morning > that we had this morning" > David Coleman, BBC > ---------------------------- > > Steve IK4WMH > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.Net email is sponsored by the Moblin Your Move > Developer's challenge > Build the coolest Linux based applications with Moblin SDK > & win great prizes > Grand prize is a trip for two to an Open Source event > anywhere in the world > http://moblin-contest.org/redirect.php?banner_id=100&url=/ > _______________________________________________ > synalist-public mailing list > [email protected] > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/synalist-public __________________________________________________________ Not happy with your email address?.
