I wasn't talking about supporting System 6 per se, but supporting a network protocol from that era. Yet I will assert that Apple has had trouble gaining a foothold in the corporate market because their support of legacy systems is lukewarm at best. Believe it or not, most businesses (particularly the largest and the poorest) think about the long term value of their assets. They don't want, and may even refuse, to upgrade functioning systems just because it is in the best interests of their vendor. Not only is there an intrinsic expense to this, but there are hidden expenses -- such as the potential downtime of botched upgrades. When you look at businesses which have been successful in the business marketplace, like IBM and Microsoft, you will notice that they actively support decade old products. Sometimes that support is just per incident support, but sometimes that support involves implementing bug fixes or back porting features. That support may cost money, but it is nevertheless there.
