As a fellow shareholder of Apple and Mac user since 1984, I agree. But I
also would like to see a means of connecting my
"ancient-no-longer-to-be-supported-by-Apple" Mac be able to connect with OS
X... for the sake of practicality and for the sake of just being able to do
something I am not supposed to!

:-)

There has to be a way!

There are at least three: - FTP (Fetch) - new software in System 6 - new software in OS X (potentially netatalk)

Option 1 should work fine today, using Fetch.
Options 2 and 3 will require someone to write it. I wonder if any of us is skilled enough to write a newer AppleTalk client for System 6... ?? Potentially netatalk could work for option #3, but I have not gotten it to compile on Panther. Perhaps I should try again.
