*You* are making the statement, and publicly misinterpreting OSM's motivations. In doing so, it is *you* who damages the reputation of the project. Think about it! If you ask students to contribute to the map and at the same time say "btw they are in favour of evil Russian aggression" then of course students (at least in Lithuania) will give it the thumbs-down. But if you patiently explain the "on-the-ground rule" and that using this rule has many positive effects but sometimes also means you have to do something you don't like - then I guess people could be made to understand.
