Hello Allie, > What you're doing is shoe-horning TB! into doing something that a > specialized news client will do better. Much better.
I don't exactly know what "shoe-horning" means, I'm just taking a guess. Quite some time ago I expressed my wish that TB would also handle newsgroups because I rather use a single program instead of two. Before TB, I used Virtual Access (that did both plus CIS and CIX, and all well) for 8 years. And, before VA, I used 3 different programs, one for CIS, one for news and one for mail. So, I think that, based on experience, I have the right to think that using a single programs is much better. But that is not the point now. I will not ask or suggest that TB manages news (although the capability could be added with not much effort because of the functionality TB already has) because I am quite satisfied with the way I can handle news with the TB and MyGate tandem. > If you can't use IMAP and need IMAP functionality then shoehorn POP > away. Same for NNTP. Setup the fancy watch and ignore filters etc. > High maintenance etc. I'd rather not. I don't use IMAP because I've never felt the need for it, but I don't complain because TB manages it or because the development effort that was and is devoted to IMAP when that effort could be devoted to enhance TB in some other areas. I know others use IMAP, and period. I "developed" my Ignore filters before I started using TB also for news. I did so to ignore threads from mailing lists (I'm subscribed to quite a few). What do you think happens to threads in this list and TBBeta about PGP, or BayesIt, or ... ? ;-) > Downloading hundreds of mails per day to read 5 per week just isn't > efficient. NNTP with a decent news client does this better. A lot > better. To me, that was or is an argument when bandwidth is a concern , which is not my case now. As I say, I'm very satisfied with the TB and MyGate tandem. -- Best regards, Miguel A.
