I would like to avoid a religious war, but we're all professionals, so I'm not too worried...I hope. :)
I'd like to hear from people who've used one or the other (preferably both) of the above systems recently. I'm very familiar with NetApp gear, and less familiar with Celerra, especially the more recent incarnations. I remember the old modular data mover grid systems from years ago, but things have changed. I remember how awful the snapshots were on the Celerra systems, but again things have hopefully changed. Full disclosure: I used to work for NetApp, but it was only for a year and I no longer work for a vendor -- didn't suit me. My employer is just a customer and we're outfitting a new datacenter with new storage. I'm a big fan of NetApp gear, though, and would pay a bit of a premium for them to get their stuff, but man oh man are they expensive! :/ Basically, taking money out of the picture, which do you prefer and why (from a technical perspective)? In our use case, we're initially looking at plain old file storage. However, I'm in favor of running databases (Oracle primarily) and VMWare over NAS, since I'm a NetApp fan and I've done it before. Is anyone running Oracle or VMWare via NAS to a Celerra? Is it working well? Is anyone using more advanced features on the Celerra like replication, WORM, and deduplication? Has anyone done simultaneous NFS and CIFS to the same share on a Celerra? It can be tricky on the NetApp. Yes, I know there are other companies out there. This is specific to EMC and NetApp. We've already done our due diligence and come down to these two vendors. Thanks! I'll be happy to share the results of this survey. -Adam _______________________________________________ Tech mailing list [email protected] http://lopsa.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/tech This list provided by the League of Professional System Administrators http://lopsa.org/
