I am deeply saddened by this news. It is much to my loss that I never met Daniel or corresponded with him beyond a very few e-mails, but all of us who use his MusixTeX owe so much to his efforts. Not only did he create a music typesetting system that easily rivals (or surpasses) commercial software in output quality, but he also provided one of the best user manuals I've seen anywhere, and then gave away the whole lot free of charge to all who were willing to take the time to learn the system. We have lost a generous spirit, a technical master, and a true music lover. Daniel will be always missed, and never forgotten.
