1) What are your favorite features of TiddlyWiki – Classic?

* all the power of HTML, CSS, JavaScript in one
* transclusion
* tags are tids
* sections, slices, fields
* plugins, plugins, plugins
* flexible templating and the Theme / ColorPalette concept

What I am not so fond of...
* the default layout and color slices
* poor css inheritance => too specific styles requiring bloated overrides

~

2.) What plug-ins (if any) do you consider essential for TiddlyWiki –
Classic?

* first and foremost, the ability to write them myself, easily!
* overrides via *zzConfig*
* *ListFiltrPlugin *— http://listfiltr.tiddlyspace.com
* *GetPlugin *— http://get.tiddlyspace.com
* *LinkifyPlugin *— http://linkify.tiddlyspot.com
* *TagSearchPlugin *— http://tagsearch.tiddlyspot.com
* *SimpleSearchPlugin*
* http://tiddlytools.com#*GotoPlugin*
* http://tiddlytools.com#*InlineJavascriptPlugin*
* http://tiddlytools.com#*TaggedTemplateTweak*

* http://mptw.tiddlyspot.com/#*HideWhenPlugin*
* http://mptw.tiddlyspot.com/#*LessBackupsPlugin*
* http://mptw.tiddlyspot.com/#*TagglyTaggingPlugin*

...and many more, depending on if I need them...

~

2.5.) What plug-ins (if any) would you rather not be without?

Difficult to say.

~

3.) Can you give a brief example of how you use TiddlyWiki – Classic?

* collecting notes in topic-specific TiddlyWikis
* creating collections of tidbits
* in-browser plugin development
* plugin showcasing and distribution
* websites
* collaboration on TiddlySpace

~

4.) What software (if any) did you try before deciding on TiddlyWiki –
Classic and if possible can you give a brief summary of why you chose to
use TiddlyWiki – Classic over them?

* KeyNote [1] — for a long time
* EverNote
* OneNote

While good at many other things, they‘re simply too inflexible in terms of
meeting custom ends, besides they‘re missing even basic wiki features.

Other wiki‘s — too much server-side overhead as well as administration, I
prefer to do without.

Website-engines and CMS — as well, too much overhead when all that is
important is presentation. I hope the static mode in tw5 will actually
provide for a powerful authoring and publishing environment rather
full-fledged sites.

However, there are *many* things where TiddlyWiki does not operate in the
right context, so I use those services within themselves...
* GMail
* Trello
* GitHub
* My FileSystem

~

5.) What have you been unable to do with TiddlyWiki – Classic that you
really wished you could?

To manage tiddlers in lists and collections like in SharePoint with custom
fields of a certain type that come with an associated ui, sorting and
filtering. This is something where I hope to see tw5 do much better and I
have long been meaning to create for tw2 (xfields).

~

6.) If you could change anything about TiddlyWiki – Classic what would it
be?

Less focus on ‚techy‘ or ‚wishy-washy‘ slices and a way much better,
built-in support for managing custom sub-tid-chunks, e.g. fields
consistently.

More comprehensive tools for renaming tiddlers in terms of updating all
of...
* tagging tiddlers
* references, including usage in macro parameters
* fields

I would strip down *most all* styles and templates to the bare minimum and
leave the rest for themes. There‘s way too much overhead that gets in the
way of doing your own thing, which currently looks like...

#this .that .andThat .andThatToo:hover {
    my:way;
    too:long;
    list:of;
    necessary:overrides;
}

I would *always* minify the core and plugins. I can easily have a reference
TiddlyWiki that is not minified to either look things up or test... but the
average user doesn‘t really care much or (want to) dig deeper.

Best wishes,
Tobias
