I am not sure what you mean here. I was thinking more of

﹙symbol.class:param some text﹚

Where if you use ﹙ as the glyph, the end string is "﹚" for inline. The 
symbol remains free for other configurations

A specially formatted quote ﹙q.large some text﹚ in line ﹙ the default 
result ﹚ inline. (Assumes trailing space before ﹚ not needed, although 
training space for ﹙ is needed. )

If I may remind you and TT (and remind myself) not to be too brief in this 
correspondence, there is plenty of room for confusion here. 

Lets not ASSUME and make an ASS out of U and ME. :)
