That is why I put it in the "standby" mode in the first place!! Again, I will 
always defer to MZ, but I have done it this way since I have my Tivo. If I am 
watching through something (through Tivo) that Tivo is simultaneously 
recording, and I want to watch something else, I put the Tivo in "standby", 
switch to my old fasioned TV remote, and watch from there. (There are no Tivo 
capabilities, such as pause, rewind, etc...).  Hope this helps!!

As long as we're on the topic, may I ask a follow-up question? 

Let's say I get home and want to watch some program immediately, 
but TiVo is already recording something I have requested. 

Can I put TiVo in the Standby mode and watch the program I want to 
see (using RF bypass), while TiVo continues to record the program 
it was recording? 

Sorry if this is obtuse, but it occurred to me while reading your 
response.
