Hello, Glad to find this group. I'm trying to setup a Philips Tivo series 1 (112) with Cox cable, no box, analog, NOT HD or even digital (yes, they're really behind here), to replace a VCR, and I'm having several problems. I have never used a Tivo or any other kind of DVR/HDD, so I will have a lot of newbie questions.
To start with: 1. Guided Setup seems to be skipping several steps. It is dialing in, and getting part of the correct info, but I'm not getting the menus to select provider and channel line-up, and the Tivo is not tuning to any channels. I've heard that you can manually program in the channels, but the instructions I have aren't working. Any suggestions? 2. Is there a way to update the software on this early of a Tivo? If so, how would I do that, and could that be part of the problem? 3. The Tivo button on the remote (Thompson replacement remote) doesn't work. Do you think this is the remote, or the Tivo?
