~Well, I sure couldn't have said it any better, Nick. Of course we end up
sharing personal stuff-- it's what people *do* when they are friends and
have known each other for a long time. And yes, for literally years the
people on list have been a source of support for each other. It's a real
normal, *human* thing to do. Human beings share their joys and sorrows with
people that they know support and care about them.
Back in the olden days (;o)) people who met at church, or school or work
or at the ice rink, whatever, formed friendships and thanks to the Internet,
this is prolly the first time in recorded history that so many friendships
and bonds have formed between people who have never actually *seen* each
other. But the interesting thing is that at the fundamental level it's *not
any different*. When I met "in person" some of the people I'd been chatting
with here for over a year it was no different really than if we'd been
physically in the same place all that time.
Y'know, the people I work with I have known now for years. And our
*reason* for being in that work place together is to do the work we do. We
even get paid to be there. But the friendships and caring that exist between
us is what makes the agency work.
And sure, we could stay rigidly ON TOPIC and never post anything but
TMNT news updates and stuff, afterall, its the TMNT that brought us here.
But what gives the fandom its soul is the people.
(And I would bet my next paycheck that both Peter Laird and Kevin
Eastman would agree with that statement.)
The bottom line is that people on this list tend to care about each
other and respond in normal human ways when someone shares something
personal, whether it's good or bad.
Ludwig, if you're uncomfortable with that fact, I think it's ok to
share your discomfort, too. Just remember you are the one for whom this
seems to be an issue. It might be something you'd want to look at.
