if you are getting a new laptop, at least get one with a 15" screen,
I have had Sony before, and they are kick ass. IBM is not too bad either.
Dell have been a little flaky on us

* Maybe the Dells are flaky, but they seem to have a good warranty (3 years, international, onsite), unlike the Sony (which IMO are flaky too).
* Maybe a big screen is nice, but it makes the laptop bigger and heavier. There are centrinos with bigger screens (but they are too expensive).
* I read that the Banias (aka Pentium M) is very very fast for Java, so I'm shooting for the low end model for my laptop (1.3 GHz, should be roughly equivalent to a 1.8 - 2.0 GHz P4, without the heat). Anyone can confirm the Java performance ? IMO, if that's the case, manufacturers should start making very small servers with that chip (like that old cube from cobalt).

On the positive side, I got my desktop up and running for TC development :)
