My networks is such that if the router dies all wired stuff works anyway , for wired things it's only used for internet access .
But I have a very good ISP and a very solid router . It is often vital to not use the router suplied by the ISP, my current ISP does not even try ( very good ). You just bring your own hardware, consquently you can use stuff that works. With my old ISP I could at least bridge their ADSL modem and put login and stuff in my own router. of course I had to figure it out by myself . i did not know anything about networking before i got a squeezebox but it was not hard to learn. google there is a lot of information and nice sites to explore, people build homenetworks all the time . And some people actually use dhcp and it works fine, it's a compapatability issue the somewhat buggy/sensitive dhcp client in a squeezebox is not always getting it together with the likewise buggy dhcp server in some routers. I wonder how much of the network drivers in a PC is workarounds for this kind of stuff ? With 14 wifi networks around I try to to use wifi only when needed, wich is for for portable stuff. -- Mnyb -------------------------------------------------------------------- Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub.
