This article is ridiculous. I believe The Office is actually having a
comeback season after a more mediocre season four, which hit its low
point with Michael driving his rental car into a lake. The episodes
this year have been by and large very funny and have remained true to
its mock-doc format (even though I agree with the point that it's
silly that the doc crew would still be filming after all this time).

The knowing asides (or "constant mugging," as the writer states) that
Jim gives to the camera are nothing new, nor is the contradictory
nature of Michael Scott. He's always had a heart -- my favorite
example being the end of the season two Halloween episode, but the
moment he saw Holly's Ed Grimley wallpaper could be a close second --
and he's always been a bit of a creep/lech/dumb ass. He's also always
been a terrible manager but a terrific salesperson. I guess you either
buy the contradictions or you don't.

Basically, we've seen this before: Show good, show gets good reviews.
Show still good, show starts getting bad reviews. Show then starts to
receive good reviews again without considerable improvement in said
show. I remember the Seinfeld backlash in season six and then the
"Seinfeld returns!" hype for season seven. Re-watching all the shows
in order on DVD proved that season six was actually a stronger overall
season.
