Oh, they broadcast plenty of good sitcoms. They still re-air "Arrested Development." Making them, however, is a different story. There have been some Canadian productions that are successful, some of which get picked up for broadcast in the US. I'm thinking "Little Mosque on the Prairie" for example. I also really liked a couple of other productions, including "Twitch City" and "Made in Canada" (which re-aired in the US as "The Industry").
What CBC is good at (YMMV) is arts criticism and news reporting, particularly of things that happen outside Canada's borders. And of printing what are essentially long-form blog rants from other Canadian arts people, which is what this "Office" evisceration was.
