I had a similar thought - but the problem with cross-stitch is that it works
perfectly in squares, whereas tablet is best in rectangles so a fair amount
of work of conversion is needed - unless I'm missing something :)  (I am a
keen cross-stitcher too)
 
I may play around with GTT and see if I can also get a font that I like.
