Thanks Al. That's shown me how badly broken my system now is! Alt-F give me the broken dash. I haven't re-assigned any quick keys on this system, so I decided to check.
None of the keyboard settings options - either going from system-settings, or from /usr/share/applications works. All of them do nothing after a brief delay. No crash or anything.
I looked at one of them called from the terminal, and it is evident that the present state of Wily on my machine is that a whole lot of the gnome libraries are, or need to be updated. There have been a lot of updates just a little earlier today, so, although I think the actual bug is a valid one, I can't do a lot more until I see what the state of Wily is in a few days. If I've got completely out of step, I'll re-install.
