ok one more comment. Those who know how to add kernel parameters via the grub boot menu, and have a Sandybridge(!) platform please try adding 'i915.i915_enable_fbc=0' to the parameters to see if it helps with the hangs. This disables framebuffer compression, which got disabled for sandybridge in kernel 3.3. It's also queued in the 3.2 stable queue, and the commit is a oneliner which might make it in the next upload to precise-updates..
