It would be nice if this was documented somewhere, e.g. http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?HacksModsAndTweaks, or perhaps there needs to be a separate wiki category for variations of linux server hardware.
I assume that a lot of the folks interested in running squeeze center on a linux server are doing so so that they can have a quiet, low-cost, low-power headless server tucked away in a closet. A "recipe" collection of best power-saving / data maximizing practices that aren't distro specific would be a great resource.
