As far as I know OSX in any variety _requires_ 832*624 ,and won't run with 640 by 480 at all. That might be the problem, though I am not an expert. Though suffice to say that no resolution below 832*624 is avalible on my monitors, either internal vram or the video card with any monitors that I own.
