Never sell anything on eBay or the internet for more than you are asking for
it. There has been a sudden recent rash of high-ticket items bought all over
the US and Canada and with literally thousands of really high-quality
counterfeit cashiers cheques drawn on American banks but sent from NIGERIA with
an explanation that the cheque is to be deposited and the excess money sent to
a third party as soon as the cheque clears. The full face value of the bogus
cheque actually DOES appear in the depositor's account within a week (for most
US bank accounts) but about a month later, when the bogus cheque finally
arrives back from the bank it is drawn on, the full amount of the counterfeit
cheque becomes the problem of the depositor. By that time the excess funds
have been sent to West Africa and are irretrievably lost. Bank fraud is the
third largest source of hard currency for NIGERIA and North American
individuals are their prey of choice.
