It's simpler than that. The Radeon 7000 is Apple's choice, so it's going to
remain supported much longer than any of the alternatives, and it's about
the fastest cards you can get for a PCI Mac anyway.

I suspect that the Rage128 will be supported at least as long as the Radeon 7000 seeing as the B&W G3s and Yikes G4s shipped from Apple with the PCI version and many of the AGP G4s shipped with the AGP version.
