I am also trying to use 10.3 on a 9600 with upgrades. I have a Sonnet G3/300 with 512k L2, 504MB RAM, Rage 128 GL and 2 Seagate Medalist hard disks.

Having been unsuccessful at cloning the 10.2.8 install on my 4GB drive I looked to try 10.3. The first install went almost smoothly, with the only troubles being the L2/L3 Cache Enabler in XPostFacto 3.0a11was causing a Kernel Panic, and I needed to re-install the mach_kernel and extensions on the drive after OS X had overwritten them. All went fine and I had it running. I installed 10.3.2 and a few updates and it successfully rebooted. Then I installed 2004-01-26Pan security update and it wouldn't reboot - it just gave me the crossed circle on the white boot screen - like it had lost the root device. Bummer.

I did an erase and re-install and again everything was going fine. I avoided the security update this time. I just installed 10.3.2. On about the third reboot it shut out again. I flagged the 'Verbose' option in XPF 3.0 and watched the text. It seems to be waiting for the root device. I;ve tried throttling it back to 8 and even 16 and it still fails. I don't get it. Why would it work at all for 2 reboots then stop??
