As do I...
Consider where the processor sits in relation to all other PCI boards - on top - great place for heat!!!
Yeh, stunning design that ;-)
I had Radeon 7000, TV Tuner, USB/Firwire, SCSI, 10/100 NIC in mine and was having problems with processor getting too hot. Various software reporting up to 50+ degrees C. Too hot in my opinion. I bought a small CPU fan and "screwed" in to top of CPU heat sink and now CPU runs much cooler. As a result I do not get random freezes I used to get (this box now only runs OS9 for localtalk bridge and SCSI Zip).
I only have a Rage128, 10/100 NIC, SCSI card (soon to be yanked, along with two of the hard disks to put in my newly upgraded G4 B&W), and USB card.
So as with any electronics it is vital it's kept as cool as possible, most failures of electronic components is due to heat - why else do you see enormous heat sinks in PCs and multiple fans, warnings in manuals to keep ventilation holes clear? Heck my G5 has got 8 Fans (it's only a Single 1.8 - should hear how noisy that is in firewire disk target mode) My advice would be to use a side case fan but investigate one that is quieter to meet you requirements, more so if you box is heavily stacked with PCI cards, RAM, harddrives (particularly if you have one or two on bottom plastic sled in base of case) and optical drives. Or take a leaf out of Apples book and build a variable fan with heat sensor that varies speed with heat increase. Or use slower/quieter fans but more of them.
I have no freezes or errors. The CPU runs at about 43 celcius. I don't call that hot. There *are* two 10krpm drives in the floor of the case but they are rarely spun up and I'm about to take them out.
