Ah. Reminds me of the joys of building servers out of SPARCstations.

Take an old SPARC 10 (or 20), which has a pizza-box case similar to a Quadra 610. The psu sets on the rhs, with three little fans to push "pre-warmed" air through the case to the lhs. The air blows over the mobo, passing the six possible card slots (horizontal, double-decked banks of three). Drive bays at the front.

So far, so good. For a basic fit, you need at least one cpu in a slot, and a graphics card in another, plus an HDD in a drive bay.

But if you're keen, you could stuff them. Two fast(ish) cpus with massive passive heat-sinks. Three more cards for things like FE and extra SCSI chains. Eight DIMMs, a second HDD and a floppy. Even a CD in the SS20.

And now the difference in feel between the entry air on the right and the exit stream on the left? Frightening. "Now we're cooking", I thought, when I first got a fully stuffed SS10 powered up.

One day the aircon failed in the computer room. By the time we detected it, the room thermometer was showing a toasty-warm 55C - but the SPARCs kept right on going. I never found out what the temp inside the case had reached. I didn't dare lift the lid for fear of disturbing what meagre air-flow was left.

I've also got a G3/300 in my 9600. Sonnet version

As do I...

Consider where the processor sits in relation to all other PCI boards - on top - great place for heat!!!

Yeh, stunning design that ;-)
