Powermac 7500 + Crescendo G3/400/2M

I "test drove" Panther on an external 18G hard drive, but performance was
terrible. I assumed there was a cache problem, but when I tried to use the
Sonnet X tune up to enable the cache my testbed was rendered unbootable.

Any sugggestions?

L2 or L3 cache is as important to OS X speed as processor speed. My UI tripled in performance after enabling the L2 cache on a Beige G4/400. I had a problem with L2CacheConfig on the Beige but PowerLogix's free cache control software worked perfectly. I've used L2CacheConfig successfully on all my PowerSurge machines.
