Well, yes, I know, that's why I assumed that was the problem. The question is how to enable the cache on the Crescendo. I'd been told not to use third-party cache tools on the Sonnet card, which is why I was trying to use Sonnet Tune Up.
I had a problem with L2CacheConfig on the Beige but PowerLogix's free cache control software worked perfectly. I've used L2CacheConfig successfully on all my PowerSurge machines.
And it works on the Crescendo?
Peter,
I used the PowerLogix software on my 9600 (non Mach 5 version - the one with cache soldered to MOBO) to disable orig level two cache. This admittedly was under OS9 and I had minimal problems with the machine (no more than one would expect with a 9600 with G3/300, 488 MB RAM, 5 PCI slots loaded, extra ATA HDs, CDRW, etc, etc anyway) I started messing around with X on this machine and got to Jaguar no probs - but couldn't seem to get it to "ignore" MOBO cache, however various software reported it as level 3 cache and the back side on CPU as level 2.
As machine was only 9600 with G3/300 performance wasn't brilliant anyway so I (perhaps wrongly) thought all was OK. This machine is now only used for SCSI zip and printing to AppleTalk printer so I generally leave it as OS9 to use Laserwriter bridge (does any one know of an OS X equivalent?)
Hope this helps somewhat. Nearly forgot CPU upgrade was a Sonnet card!
Cheers
Simon
