Coo. Still there are precedents for this kind of unsafe integration of function, as well you know (cf IE, Windoze, Win Explorer, Security Alerts too numerous to mention, etc ...)

However, I haven't myself seen Safari opening downloaded zips without asking. But I tend to use Firefox instead.

I'd be surprised if Apple have made such a huge blunder. Perhaps somebody should tell CERT to check it out.

That's already there in Panther.

And the web page doesn't tell you where the application it's using or the
preferences that you use to control how it will expand the file are stored.


If Tiger's version of Safari really calling Finder directly, then that's
really bad news, because it's absolutely critical that the content of
ZIP files are not automatically run, even if the "zip" component thinks
they're safe.
