What about exporting something to PDF and then look at the result yourself? Open it with a PDF viewer and zoom it in a lot. Then compare it to a PDF that yoy know is a ”HI-RES PDF”. Which one was better? If the OpenOffice.org PDF was worse, then just increase its resolution, which you can do if you export via File → Export to PDF… rather than just clicking the Export to PDF button. I could set the resolution to 1200 dpi and lower.
