Pauline you can download OpenOffice from here: http://www.openoffice.org/

- Click on the "Get openoffice.org 2.3" link
- and then click on the big green rectangle that says Download OpenOffice.org
- now click on the link that says "Windows"
- and finally click on the "Continue to download" link

There is nothing to buy and no registration required.
Once you've downloaded the file double-click it to start the program
installation

After installation there will be a number of programs available for your use.

The product contains a word processor (Writer), a spreadsheet (Calc),
a drawing program that should suit your need for posters (Draw), and
other programs you may find useful. And all of your old files, if you
can get at them from this new computer, can be opened, edited, and
saved with these programs if the need should arise.
