Seems I've stirred up quite a hornet's nest. Please forgive me for the error of my ways.... that is, simply changing the "Subject" and not sending it in a new post.

While there are some areas (rules/etiquette) which are questionably written, concerning this, I think I've got this all straight now. If I begin a new Subject, I must send a brand spankin' new post and put my Subject in that.

My error was in how most of the eMail lists, on which I'm a member, operate. You can take an old eMail and change the Subject, write your info and post....

However, I now have users@openoffice.org in my eMail address book so I can now bring up a new eMail with a new Subject.

Thanks for setting me straight. However, I'm now a bit leery.... <grin>

The source of this is indeed difficult to spot. It's at
http://www.openoffice.org/contact.html . There are two links to the
Users list on that page: one has "subject=[moderated] YOU MUST GIVE A
SUMMARY HERE" and the other just "subject=[moderated]".

It's worth noting that this is on a page headed "Contacting
OpenOffice.org", which may well explain why so many posters think
they are contacting OpenOffice itself in some sense, not a group of
users like themselves. Perhaps they avoid the "Free Community
Support" at http://support.openoffice.org/ , preferring the idea of
contacting the organisation - and then think they are.

Ah ha! No wonder i couldn't find it. It is not an online form as I
suspected but an HTML <A> with the subject in the HREF=<MAILTO:XXX>

Perhaps an online form with a captcha is needed instead. Then they can
at least choose from a drop-down list for their subject.

Still doesn't explain why troll/idiot (what a sad sense of humour)
thinks that people are invited to change the subject line of existing
posts.
