In ageneralised *e-mail* "discussion" an email is sent To one person

All).

It has never been clear to me why a *News* reader should have both

Thanks, Harold. That clears up some misunderstanding for me. I
recall some discussion recently about the need to cc: the original
sender if the message came through the moderator. Wouldn't the "Reply
All" function send a reply to the original sender?

Yep, thats how i CC the OP when they are non list members (moderated
posters).

Hmmm. What *exact* method (OP Sys, mail/news program, mail or news) do you
use to read/write the list? I currently use Thunderbird on one computer and
Google's web interface via Firefox on another. Reply All does *not* include
an unsubscribed OP in either system. Previously I used Outlook Express
*e-mail*. Reply All did *not* include an unsubscribed OP there either. I've
also used a News reader; same. Hence alll the [heated] discussion in this
list about *explicitly* cc'ing an unsubscribed OP if you want them to see
your reply. I thought it had to do with the way the moderator's software
(ezmlm) mangles the headers.

Some mail/news programs do not respect the 'Reply-To' header and also send to the 'From' address when using the 'Reply-All' button. Those who use these non-compliant programs can use 'Reply-All' button when responding to unsubscribed OPs.
