My laptop battery is Li-Ion and it's life has decreased in recent months so I finally looked this up. "They [Li-Ion batteries] have no memory effect and have long life cycles and excellent discharge performance....and may demonstrate a drop in performance if charging and recharging voltages are not controlled carefully. Charge control circuitry is required for virtually all Lithium-ion applications."[1] So I guess it's bad charge control circuitry. Dang EE's, oh wait...
