I've had great success with my IBM Thinkpad. I was able to get it refurbished a year ago for a great price (http://www.ubid.com) and it's lasted very well (even through a couple of bad falls). Plus, I've really come to prefer the trackpoint to a touchpad (when the trackpoint is made well - Dell's trackpoints are pathetic, IBM's are great). As for wireless, I've had great results with my Cisco Aironet 340. Check http://linux-laptop.net/ for information on just about any laptop in existance and its functionality in Linux. -- Tyler Strickland definition of defenestration 1. An act of throwing someone or something out of a window. 2. Proper karmic retribution for an incorrigible punster. "Oh, that was _awful_!" "Quick! Defenestrate him!" 3. The act of completely removing Micro$oft Windows from a PC in favor of a better OS (typically Linux).
