Normally I am against HP because their desktops always seemed crappy to me. But I got this HP pavilion ze1115 laptop and everything works great (except the modem of course). I'm currently running Debian but I also had RedHat 7.2 on there.
<rant severity="medium"> Only Compaq made me more angry than HP, because their cases were always so small and made it difficult to install RAM and such. That and the hardware pieces are all non-standard, for instance, power supplies that are smaller than the standard size so you can't just go to the store and buy a new one when yours goes out. </rant> <rant type="complaint" category="get_this_off_my_chest"> The main reason I still don't like HP very much is because they have started charging for drivers. No joking, they charge you for software to run the hardware you buy. For instance, my brother had one of those Internet keyboards and after upgrading from Win2K to WinXP, looking on the HP website, you have to pay $20 bucks and they will send you a CD with updated drivers. Another example is a CD-R/RW that my uncle got from a friend. It turns out the CD drive works out of the box with XP, but to get drivers you have to go find DirectCD or Adaptec and load that on to get it working. You can't get anything from HP. </rant> Phillip On Thu, Mar 13, 2003 at 12:34:51PM -0700, Nathan Cooprider wrote: > I am looking into getting a laptop to do schoolwork on and I would like to > put linux on it (probably as the only operating system).
