Linux has good hardware support these days. It's almost as good as
Windows and in many cases exceeds Windows' support for slightly older
hardware. Things just work. No messing with driver wizards. I would
say Linux has much better hardware support than Mac.

"Things just work"? In Linux? Have you been reading the posts to this mailing list? I will gladly admit that things are getting a lot better. I had one box with onboard sound that didn't work under one version of RedHat (this was a year ago). I installed a newer version of mandrake and it worked perfectly. Now on my laptop RedHat uses the onboard sound perfectly. Things are better and getting better but no one can convince me that its EASIER than WinXP (at least at the present time). Now in the case that both don't work, you actually have a chance of getting it to work under Linux, where as with Windows you are hosed.

Now, as regarding the post about spending 10 hours trying to get some drivers to work under Windows, I think I've actually found the problem:

"...sound and modem working on his @&%&@$&%! WinME box." (emphasis and pseudo explitive added)

I like to pretend that WinME never happend. It sure shouldn't have. WinXP is nice.
