Having recently seen the Panther demonstration, I must say that things are about to get really good for Mac users, and also Linux and Unix users. Why? Because Mac OS X uses cups as it's integrated printing subsystem. Panther also includes the gimp-print driver filter system, which enables cups to now print to many, many printers, including winprinters. This also means that many improvements are going to be put by apple and other printer manufacturers back into gimp-print. After all, now if you want to certify your printer as "mac" compatible, you'll have to make it work with Cups and gimp-print or some other filtering system like the existing foomatic. So good things are coming, and they benefit both linux and apple.
