FYI, I am working closely with Steve French, the author of the VFS
CIFS implementation (now in the 2.6 kernel), in building encryption
into VFS. He is very knowledgeable with regards to networked
filesystem nuances, which I am having to take into account while doing
my encrypted filesystem work. Between him and the JFS guys in the
hall down from me, I have some very conveniently accessable expertise
to draw on while tackling this behemoth of a project. Imagine having
an LTP team, an LSB team, a performance team, a filesystem team, a
driver development team, a graphics team, a security team, etc. all
working in the same building, hacking away at the Linux kernel. One
rarely encounters a problem that someone nearby can't help solve. The
IBM LTC is a wonder to behold. :-)

The only dumb question is one you haven't asked yet.
